Eileen Khatchadourian is the winner of the Best Rock Album, Midan at the 10th Armenian Music Awards, Los Angeles, USA, December 13, 2009. Eileen was born in Beirut where she grew up in a family of piano players. Her curiosity and interest in other cultures’ music led her to learn African singing in the Ivory Coast where she spent many months.
Eileen is considered to be the first Armenian-Lebanese rock singer who performs in Armenian. She started her professional public career at the age of 18 by winning the part ofCeline Dion and performing a LIVE duet of the song Plus Haut Que Moi with the French-Canadian singer Mario Pelchat, in 1996. One year later, she recorded her first single with EMC, “Lamma”, an oriental jazz piece. During her 7 years of performance with Guy Manoukian, she recorded 3 songs in his 1999 CD “Xmas through the eyes of Guy Manoukian”. During this time, in Paris, she specialized in Armenian traditional singing, and attended the Roy Hart theater program. In 2002 she recorded her first solo album ‘Abaka’. She performed at the Martyr’s square in April 2005, and also at the Dubai Jazz Festival 2008.
For years, Eileen was considering an Armenian alternative rock CD. “Midan” was launched in December 2008. In November 2009 Eileen was the opening act for Yann Tirsen at the International Beirut Rock Festival where she return last year, in September 2011 to open the Serj Tankian concert. Eileen is now in Europe preparing her new album with 3 English songs about her Armenian identity.
