Vahagn Hayrapetyan was born in Yerevan Armenia in 30.08.1968. One of the most popular and renowned Armenian jazz piano player. Being the son of the famous Armenian violin player Karo Hayrapetyan. Graduating the Tchaikovsky special music school as a pianist and composer, Yerevan State Conservatory. Vahagn studied his manner with Jazz be – bop legends Barry Harris and Frank Hewitt in New York and collaborated with many legendary musicians . He recorded and released three albums in NEW ORLEANS ”Love for sale” “Tripp to New Orleans” and “Bop it up”.
He participate many international jazz festivals such as Jazz Jamboree, St. Petersburg international jazz fest, Moscow international jazz fest 1997 98 99 New Orleans Jazz fest du Maurier and Montreal jazz fest. And many more … he toured around the world and played many concerts with his trio. Also toured with many internationally recognized jazz musicians around the world.
He was teaching jazz in Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Yerevan. Since 1998 pianist and keyboard player of world famous ARMENIAN NAVY BAND. ( ref. Armenin Navy Band) He formed his own band “Katuner” at 2005 (ref. Katuner)
Vahagn Hayrapetyan is part of the yearly “Jazz futures” program, organized by US embassy in Cyprus where he teaches and performs with the worlds greatest bassist Ari Rolland and his band.
Vahagn released his first solo album “Singin’ and Swingin”. and “Stike up the band” with his “NEW YORK – YEREVAN’’ jazz quartet, which includs Ari Roland ( acc. Bass) Keith Baala (drums) Zaid Nasser ( alto saxophone) all from N.Y. the quartet performed in Yerevan, N.Y., San Francisco, Boston, Cyprus, the N.Y. yEREVAN QUARTET plays their own arrangements to Armenian evergreens of 40’s – 70’s as well as pure traditional Jazz of 40’s and 50’s.
Vahagn also leads his JAZZ TRIO AND QUARTET in Yerevan and performs regularly in different music clubs and concert halls. Recently he formed another project called “Accoustic Colors” which includes : Folk instruments -Norair Kartashyan, Piano- Vahagn Hayrapetyan, Cello- Nikoghayos Vardanyan, Drums- Gevork Svazyan, Vocals -Varsenik Avanyan, Saxophones – Armen Hyusnunts.
Vahagn Hayrapetyan is author of a movie sound tracks “Bounded Parallels”, “ If only everyone” and “Shor and Shor Shor” which was written and performed at the opening of “Golden Apricot” film festival.
